Founder’s Day Celebration, to honor Carter G. Woodson, who established the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) in 1915.

When: last Sunday in September 2:00 – 5:00 PM

2026 Founder’s Day Celebration: An Uncommon Valor program recognizing the six African American teachers (and one librarian) who integrated the Athens-Clarke County public schools
When: Sunday, September 27 at 2pm
Where: The Vernon Payne Meeting Hall of the Clarke County School District Administrative Offices Building, 595 Prince Avenue, Athens, Georgia 30601

2nd Sunday in December: Carter G. Woodson’s Birthday Celebration

End of year event, to celebrate Carter G. Woodson’s birthday and community members who have positively impacted Black History and Culture in Athens and surrounding areas.
